QUB Ógra Fianna Fáil come out in support of Keep QUB Neutral

fianna-fail-logoOn the evening of Friday 24 October QUB Ógra Fianna Fáil (William Drennan Cumann) announced their backing for the Keep QUB Neutral campaign.

On their Facebook page QUB Ógra Fianna Fáil state they say “Yes to Unity and Yes to a United Campus” with the following statement:

“Fianna Fáil – The Republican Party, has been committed to the reunification of this island since its foundation. We believe that a united Ireland has the potential to give the people of Ireland, north and south, the best possible opportunity to build a truly just and prosperous society.

Tugann an Ollscoilíocht deis do dhaoine ó ghach uile cúlra teacht le chéile agus a gcuid meoin a fhairsingiú. Aithníonn Fianna Fáil QUB go bhfuil atmaiséar oscailte  agus neodrach rithabhachtach san Ollscoil mar go gcuireann sé leis an gcomhphlé fiúntasach seo.

QUB Ógra Fianna Fáil – William Drennan Cumann, respects the right for students to discuss issues that are of interest to them, and we would campaign for a vote in favour of a United Ireland in a legislative referendum.

However, we also believe that a united Ireland can only be built on the foundations of a united people. Civic Institutions such as universities, and the opportunities and space they provide for debate and the exchange of ideas among cultures, are crucial to our aim of uniting people. Such was the spirit of the United Irishmen, that sought to unite all strands of Irish identity together.

Ní neart go cur le chéile.

It is for this reason that we are in support of retaining QUB campus’ neutral environment with regard to the constitutional issue. We want to send out a clear message to unionists that we are eager to listen to their concerns so that we can build a united Ireland that gives respect all the great traditions of this island. QUB Ógra Fian Fáil believes nationalists have nothing to fear but much to gain from a neutral environment in Queens. For reason we call on all students to vote for neutrality for unity.”
